Polonezy is a 10-piece brass orchestra led by Masecki from the piano. It came into existence in 2012 after a long discussion with Jan Bernad about the place of the Polonaise (the polish national dance) in modern polish musical culture, or rather a lack of thereof. Consequently Masecki wrote a new set of Polonaises and premiered it at the Kody Festival in Lublin that same year. Soon the band released an album with the music and Masecki received the prestigious “Paszport Polityki” award.
Polonezy play rarely but their appearences are serious and memorable. For the International Jazz Day 2018 they performed an enlarged version at the Polish National Radio Hall, aided by strings and double-winds, now awaiting DVD release.
