“Chopin – Nocturnes” is Masecki’s latest classical music album. As always he creatively blurrs the borders between genres and styles in an exciting attempt to enliven old traditions. This time Masecki experiments with the way classical music is learned and transmited. In the european tradition the score is the main link to the composer’s idea. For this project Masecki learned the Nocturnes only from recordings, never looking at the scores, much like in the oral traditions of folk music and jazz. This radicaly changes the relationship to the music and introduces an amount of creative freedom rarely found in classical interpretations.
As in previous classical releases Masecki uses his untuned 6-octave upright piano of rather unspectacular quality, thus continuing his predilection for lo-fi aesthetics.
